Hi Dave,It actually feels good to mix cemnet by hand up there in the fresh air of the mountains! Most of the crew took today (Sunday) off so I was the gopher mixing cemnet and loading the block on the scaffolding for my two blocklayersThis week I plan to go up into the mountains and have some coconut trees cut down and made into rafters for the roof am trying to keep costs down :) They tell me that I can buy a coconut tree for 500 pesos each and they will rip it down into 2×6s for another 500 pesos. I suppose that we will have to carry the lumber by hand to the site.Wish you were here mate you would enjoy the whole program. By the way I am bringing a bunch of stuff over to your house to store whilst I am of on Safari :) Hope you don’t mind? I bought one of those cabinets from the boys down the street and plan to load it up with my camping and dive gear and put it in your spare bedroom. Dropped it off at your place this morning Melody is in Maasin so I left it on the balcony. Also measured that king sized bed made out of bamboo and will drop that off in a couple of days too.We miss having you around!take caredp

Hi Dutchpickle,I’m starting to think about buynig some land in the Philippines after a recent trip (our second) to Siargao. I’m currently considering two places: middle to northern east coast Siargao, and now I’m starting to look at East Samar! I love surfing tropical waves so both of these places sound ideal. In several posts I’ve read that you warn people about not buynig land in the Philippines. Would you be so kind as to give me some suggestions on buynig land in the Philippines, and the things I should avoid! I know a lot of people probably ask you the same thing and it’s probably a pain in the ass for you, but I would really appreciate any help you could give me to avoid falling in some kind of fraud (where I would end up losing my hard earned money)!!Thanks in advance.Best Regards,Jose Espinoza

Hi Dave,Thanks mate! It really is nice here in El Nido. We auclalty landed up staying at Og’s Pension on the beach. Great place with breakfast included and wi-fi.We walked along the beach all the way to the airport this morning. Took about 4 hours there and back and Beth found some nice shells for the aquarium.I am planning on loading the bike on a local boat that runs dried fish up to Manila every couple of days and driving down from there. That way we can stop in Samar on the way back.cheersdp

Hello IvanSounds like a good research prcejot! My feeling is that this zip line will benefit the local Tagabenit community tremendously. Tourism in Palawan in general is growing at a tremendous rate especially around Sabang.Try getting a hold of a representative of the Tagabenit Guide association better yet you should pay the zip line a visit, once it becomes operational, and interview the locals to get their take on the prcejot!Tagabenitt, Puerto Princessa City, Palawan 5300Contact personMarivel Orcajada 0910 628 7980dp

Greetings John Hanson, dutchpickle stayed at the Coconut Bay Resort last week for two nihgts while passing through Cagayan de Oro (CDO) in MindanaoI think that I paid 700 800 pesos per night for a great room with ac, satellite tv, hot water. They also have a great little restaurant and 3 swimming pools.dutchpickle highly recommends the Coconut Bay Resort but you will have to make your own reservation we only do recommendations! You will be ok as a walk in on week days but the weekends are usually packed.Coconut Bay is not near the town center so you will have to sort out transportation when you want to go anywhere, because nothing is within walking distance.cheersdp

The new Zune browser is sgnrpisiruly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
